CHAPTER 1 Ian walked next to Colby without saying a word. Honestly, he didn't know what to say. This was his mate walking next to him and he had no idea how to talk to him. "Ian, do you not like me?" Colby asked quietly. Snapping his head in Colby's direction, he gasped, "Of course, I like you. Why would you even ask me that?" Colby looked away from Ian's stare, saying, "Well, you haven't said more than five words to me since you met me." Ian went to disagree, then closed his mouth. Colby was right. Seeing the sadness in Colby's face, Ian felt like an outright i***t. Stopping in his tracks, Ian sighed, "Colby, I'm sorry. It isn't you at all...it's..." "Oh, hell the, it isn't you it's me, crap, really?" Colby whispered. Ian watched as Colby stood there shaking his head in despair and Ian swallowed, dug deep, and admitted, "What if I'm not what you want?" Colby's mouth dropped open as he looked in Ian's direction, "What the hell does that even mean? You're my mate, Ian. Fate doesn't make mistakes." Snorting, Colby rubbed his hard, straining c**k through the front of his pants and said, "Besides, if I get any harder I'm going to have permanent zipper marks on my dick." Ian scrunched his nose as he said, "That's just crude." Colby huffed, "Ian, it might be crude, but it's true. Now, what is the real problem?" Sighing heavily, Ian said, "Let's keep going, to the pond, and I'll tell you on the way. Not having you look at me while I talk will hopefully make it easier." They began walking once more, as Ian started talking, "About three years ago, I met someone. He talked about how we were meant to be together and that he could see himself falling in love with me so easily." Snorting, Colby said, "I can see where he would say that. I mean, you are sexy, funny, and I've personally seen your loyalty to the ones you care for." Ian gave Colby a small smile as he said, "Thank you." For a short time, Ian was quiet and appreciated the fact that Colby wasn't rushing him. This was not an easy story to tell. Needing a bit of comfort, Ian took Colby's hand in his own, and ignored his gasp as Ian continued with his story, "I was so excited. I mean, it isn't every day that a great looking guy gives someone like me the time of day." When Colby went to say something, Ian squeezed his hand saying, "I mean, the fact that I'm a geek boy. Ricky, Joop, and I found out a long time ago, guys don't usually like to have someone around that's smarter than they are. I don't know, maybe we intimidate them somehow, maybe they feel inept, maybe..." Colby interrupted with a soft, "Maybe they feel they'll bore you because they don't have the quick answer." Ian turned startled eyes to Colby. Colby shrugged as he said, "Ian, your intelligence can be intimidating. I won't lie to you, it scares me. However, what really scares me is that you're going to look at me like some dumb jock or a dumb laborer." "I would never do that, Colby." Ian said breathily. "Why not? I work in construction, I don't read the paper or have much interest in books. I like to go four wheeling, hiking in the woods, and playing football with my friends. I love being outside. The thought of doing what you guys do, well...it gives me hives." Colby said honestly. Ian laughed, "Sometimes, Colby, it does the same to me." Colby's eyes were wide and that made Ian laugh even more as he said, "What? You don't think a lab rat likes to be outside once in a while?" Tilting his head, Colby said, "I really didn't give it much thought." Ian looked straight ahead as he continued to walk, saying, "Well, believe me, we do. Anyway, Kelvin and I dated for three months. We did some kissing and I didn't understand why he wasn't trying to take things further." Colby growled and Ian quickly looked at him asking, "Do you want to hear this or not?" Colby scowled, saying, "I don't want to as much as need to. It's just hard hearing how your mate wanted someone to f**k them." Ian huffed, "Colby, I didn't even know you then." Colby stuck out his bottom lip, pouting as he said, "I know. It still doesn't make it easy to hear." Ian snorted, "Does that look really work for you?" Colby pulled in his bottom lip, grumbling, "I must be losing my touch, because it used to." Ian stopped, turned to Colby, and went on his tippy toes to give him a peck on the cheek. Then softly whispered, "It is adorable, but completely unnecessary." Colby brought his hand to where Ian had kissed him. Ian watched as he closed his eyes and was surprised when Colby opened them and his brown eyes had golden flecks sparkling like stars within the sky. "Your eyes are amazing." Ian said in awe. Colby panted softly as he closed his eyes once more saying, "It's my cat. He really wants to come out and play. You are like cat nip to him. It's kinda hard to hold him back." Ian's eyes went wide as he said, "Oh." Shaking his head fiercely, Colby opened his eyes once more and they were back to their normal sparkly brown. "So, tell me about this idiot." Colby said quietly, as he took Ian's hand and started walking again. Ian let out a deep breath, saying, "You don't know him to say that." Colby scoffed, "I don't have to know him to know him. If he let you out of his sights, he's an idiot." Smiling, Ian said, "You're laying it on thick, Colby." Shaking his head, Colby said, "I'm telling it how I see it. Now, get on with it, and stop stalling." Realizing Colby was right, Ian said, "Well, I was all about Kelvin. I woke up thinking about him, drove Ricky and Joop crazy talking about him all the time, and would rush home to see him in the evenings." "Wow, he must have been a very special man." Colby whispered. Ian snorted, "No, he wasn't. We had been dating for three months. I wanted to take things further. I mean, Kelvin always said we were on the," Ian did hand quotes, saying, "getting to know each other part." "Oh, man." Colby said with a shake of his head. Giving off a small laugh, Ian made his way into the woods saying, "Tell me about it. Well, I got it into my head that I would just seduce him. The problem was, I had no idea how to do that." Ian began to feel his cheeks heat as he continued, "So I made Ricky and Joop sit with me and we had a p**n night." Colby gasped and looked at Ian in surprise, "A p**n night?" Ian gave Colby a disgusted look, "Not like that! We got together, went to the adult video store, rented some movies, and went to the house to pop popcorn and watch the movies." "You, uh...you guys watched p**n all night?" Colby asked. Nodding his head, "Well, yeah. I wanted to understand how the dynamics of it all worked. To know what I needed to do, what he would need to do, what supplies I needed. So, when we were done, Ricky, Joop and I came up with a strategic plan to seduce Kelvin and..." "A strategic plan?" Colby asked in disbelief. Sighing heavily, Ian said, "I know, it was stupid, but what do you expect from a room full of virgins?" Colby gave a low rumble as he said, "Ian, please don't talk like that with my cat at the forefront here." Ian's voice dropped in volume "Sorry." Colby must have heard Ian's shame in his voice, because he said, "Babe, tell me the rest." Ignoring the endearment, Ian said, "The next night I had set up a date night for Kelvin and myself. When he got there, I had made a fancy dinner, the soft music was on, and the candles lit. Seduction was everywhere. We ate, drank the wine and then I made my move." "Oh, boy." Colby mumbled. "Oh, he let me get on my knees to give him a blow job, but it wasn't like those damn movies. I struggled to take his c**k in my mouth, and when I went down on him, I about choked to death. It was horrible. The entire thing was just humiliating." Ian said sadly. "So, what did he do, have you get up and said goodnight?" Colby asked. Shaking his head, Ian said, "I wish. The fucker grabbed my hair and ordered me to do it right. He started moving his hips, gagging me even more." Colby snarled, "The fucker tried to r**e you?" Ian got quiet, "I wouldn't call it that." Colby felt his cat's hair rise as he listened, and hissed, "No means no." Ian shrugged, whispering, "I mean, I'm the one that set up the seduction and all, it's just that it wasn't like in the movies." Colby's eyes began to shift as he growled, "No means no!" Ian looked down as he said quietly, "Well I..uh..." "You what?" Colby snarled. "I bit him." Ian whispered. Colby's eyes widened in shock as he gasped, "you what?” Ian smiled as he said, "I bit him on his d**k. He yelled, let go, and as he pulled up his pants he said no amount of money was worth this." Colby's eyebrow rose in confusion, "I don't understand." "Well, it seems that Kelvin was being paid to date me by a rival lab. They wanted information about an experiment we were working on and thought that they could use me to get the answers. The problem was, I never spoke about my work with anyone. None of us do." Ian said huskily. Colby responded in a low voice, "I am so sorry, Ian." Shaking his head, Ian said, "The thing is, Colby, I don't know if I can... well, I've never tried to... I mean..." Colby pulled Ian to a stop and turned Ian towards him. Looking down in understanding, Colby asked, "Are you trying to tell me that you never tried to be intimate with anyone since?" Nodding his head, Ian was humiliated and couldn't even look at Colby, "I never even told Ricky and Joop what happened." Colby placed his finger under Ian's chin and lifted until their eyes met. Ian saw real compassion in Colby's brown eyes when he said, "Ian, mating isn't all about s*x. It's about knowing that you are together through whatever life throws at you. So long as you say we will one day make our mating official, I can wait. You'll know the time is right, when it is." Tears filled Ian's eyes and he found it hard to speak. Swallowing hard, Ian said huskily, "I want you as my mate, Colby. I just need some time to..." Colby softly kissed Ian as he whispered, "I told you, so long as I know you want me, I can wait. Now, let's find Joop." Entering the pond area, Ian gasped. Trees branches were broken and the dirt showed where someone was dragged. It was clear that a fight had taken place in this very area. "Joop! Joop!" Ian yelled. "Ian quick, come over here." Colby ordered. Ian rushed to where Colby was looking and looked down to where Colby was pointing. Gasping, Ian asked, "Is that blood?"
