The beginning

I was walking the halls between my classes. Adjusting the heavy books I just picked up from my locker. Another boring day in paradise. I sigh as I make my way through the main building, passing faceless students as I go. Today seemed antsier than usual, more of a hum in the halls.Everyone was talking about the big game this weekend, homecoming. I personally hate sports and will not be participating any of that.   I round the corner getting closer to my class when all of a sudden the school alarm went off stopping me in my tracks. You know the one, for tornadoes or school shootings. But the weather was wrong for the first option, too sunny and not a cloud in the sky. Panic set in as students started running through the halls to get anywhere safe. Suddenly I was almost alone, almost.    Down the hall was the first one I saw. Human but not completely. With a disturbing gait it came towards me, fast as f**k. All I could do was drop my stuff and run which seemed to make it faster. What the f**k is that thing? Where do I go?  It tore through the halls after me with inhumane speed. A high pitched guttural growl escaped its face in the process.   I ran as fast as I possibly could go before more appeared in the opposite end of the hall. Almost like the screech of the first one brought them too. Some looked worse than others. All had a sickly pale gaunt look to them. Pale and veiny with dar bruising all over their bodies. Clothes were torn and stained. Half falling off as they moved. Arms and legs were bent in odd angles or half way dragging behind as they made their way towards me. Some of them were covered in blood and guts, oozing out as they walked. One was dragging its own entrails behind it which made me gag instantly. Bile raising in my throat I forced it down with a swallow and turned to try to run. They were closing in fast and I couldn't help but let out a scream.    Then a door behind me flung open and hands quickly pulled me in before shutting the door in the same swooping motion. A boy held my mouth shut and shushed me while I fought him for my freedom. I thought one of those things got me. "Be quiet or they'll find us, you don't want to know what happens when they get you" he whispered. I stopped fighting and he released me. The dark room made it impossible to see who I was with. Thinking of one of those things getting me sent a chill down my spine. "What the f**k are those?" I hissed back questioningly. He sighed in response and just shrugged "All I know is when they get you, you turn into one and I don't know about you but I like my organs inside of my body" he said with a lighthearted hint in his tone. The thought brought the bile back into my throat. "They're so fast.."I whispered listening to the c*****e just outside the janitors closet we were shoved in together.    Screams and cries rang out as these monsters devoured anyone living they could find. Some time passed while we sat there staring at each other, listening. Soon the sounds disappeared leaving us with just our heart beats.    "What do we do? " I whispered to him. We could run but they're so fast we would have no chance. "Our best option is to remain quiet and unseen and only fight if we have to" he replied shakily. Both of us were shaking like leaves. How can we manage this? "We should see if anything in here can be used as weapons" he suggested and I nodded. We quietly looked around the small dark room with our phone lights. Brooms and mops and buckets along with some random tools were neatly placed in their spots around the room. He started taking the broom off it's stick and taped a screw driver to the top of it like a spear. I found some nails that I quietly hammered through a mop stick. I grabbed a mean looking hammer as well and he took extra screw drivers and tape and shoved them into his book bag, leaving behind all of his school supplies. We won't need those any time soon. I emptied mine as well and took some extra bits and bobbles that might be able to help us.     We both looked at each other for quite a while before shaking our heads in agreement. Time to get the f**k out of here. "I have my truck in the student lot, if we get to the science building we can take the stairs down to the first floor and jump the gate to the lot" his plan was the only thing we had. It had to work. I nodded in agreement and he grabbed the handle. "Ready?" He whispered "Not really." I sighed back and he chuckled "It's now or never." he stated as he slowly turned the handle and we peeked out.
