Chapter1- Princess Sierra of Querencia Kingdom

2214 Words
Querencia Kingdom; my beloved Kingdom, when I was young, I heard stories that transpired through the mouths of our elders, my grandmother.   My grandmother told me stories that she also heard from her granny; the tale that transcended through generations.   I was nine years old back then; I was lying in my bed when my grandmother advised me to sleep, but I pleaded if she can tell me stories to help me fall asleep.   She began telling me a story about another World that is far different from ours. It is where people wear clothes differently from us. My grandmother called it the other World.   Their work is different from ours too; they don't have Kings and Queens, and Kingdoms.   They don't live in valleys or mountains nor use horses for transportation.   The cities where they live have no mansions and castles; they don't have servants who work for the King and families.   I asked my grandmother, "What does the other World seem like?"   She told me there are a lot of tall buildings in the city. People mostly would go inside the building to work.   In the streets; it is always busy. There are lots of cars and its crowded with many people walking side by side down the crossroads.   They're usually strolling around the streets to do their business and go to work. Do their leisure like shopping, eating, and going to the park.   I asked her, "What kind of work do they do?"   She said, "It's a different kind of work where people would wear suits and ties partnered with coats. Then they will go to the highest building, sit there for hours in front of a box that reflects a bright light which she called it a Computer."   She also told me that people who live in the city don't plant, harvest, and don't raise animals.     She observed that animals there are called pets; which is very peculiar because the dog's purpose in our Kingdom usually chases sheep to keep the herd from leaving the fences. The dogs from the Other World are treated differently.   In the other World, dogs are pets where they live inside their owner's house and are well-taken care of.   She said, that all kinds of stuff in that World are in one place where all the things you need are there: food, water, and stuff they need at home.   You can find and buy all kinds of food in one place called "Supermarkets". She told me that they are using "money" to buy goods and stuff that you need. Money is like gold bars and gold coins in our Kingdom.   She witnessed that the other World is fast-paced. People are too busy bustling and it's hard for them to stop, look around and appreciate nature.   She asserted that the other World is very similar to our Kingdom. Citizens are trying their best to withstand the hardships in their daily lives.   They may not be working for the Kings and Queens but they have "bosses" in the place they work for. They usually obey commands given by their bosses so they can receive a salary and live a decent life.   My grandmother described it so well as if she had been there. I can't help but asked her "Grandma, have you been there?"   She glanced at me. "Yes, I have been there several times," she said as if being there is such a natural thing to do.   "Really?" I asked in disbelief.   "What are you doing there Grandmother?"   "I got friends there." she smiled weakly.   "Friends, you have friends in the Other World?" I asked curiously.   "Yes, I do have friends there. I visit them all the time when I was young, but today they might not be alive anymore. They have a short mortality rate than us." she sounds sad.   "Short-lived you mean they are dead by now?" I asked again.   "Yes, sadly their lives are more prone to negative energies that easily weaken their body. Few of them are fortunate enough to live longer the same as me," she explained.   "Why Grandma? What are the reasons?"   "Many reasons; anger, hatred, jealousy that easily scattered through the hearts of everyone, fear that can eat their liveliness and darken their souls."   "Grandma, I want to know what it's like in the Other World," I asked eagerly.   "At the right time, you will know. It is your fate to know my dear Sierra." she smiled at me sweetly and held my hand.   At my young age, I'm oblivious and curious about everything.   I love reading. I feel I could discover the World through it and learn different perspectives.   At a young age, I feel that there is something magical about my grandmother's story. Even if it's a story that considered a myth by our ancestors.   I feel a particular connection when she describes that place; the other World. When she said she has friends in there; deep inside me, I get that feeling of eagerness to make friends in the other World.   My grandmother is secretive about my mother's and auntie's stories.   All of our servants in the palace are mute about it for whatever reason I wondered. What are the things that I'm not allowed to know?   My heart is yearning for answers and comfort.   I grew up knowing that the truth is hidden from me. I grew up without my mother beside me. I was only raised by my grandmother, she acts like my mother.   Father has always been as busy as the ruler and the King of our Kingdom. He continuously checks on me, manages to spend more time with me.   I always wonder if my father misses my mother. Has he forgotten about her entirely?   I even think that the people in our Kingdom have forgotten her already. It makes my heart aches thinking that way.   However, one night, when I had a terrible dream; I came running to my father's room and I saw him hugging my mother's dress while sobbing.   That is when I knew my father has always been missing her but remained unbothered as he needs to be strong for our Kingdom.   I am the only daughter of Querencia Kingdom, the future Queen. I think there will be no problem about it in the future.   The thought of becoming a well-presented Queen for our people is being taught and reminded by my grandmother.   "A good Queen will serve the people and will be the people's strength." those are my grandmother's wise words.   When I turned twelve, I was picking wildflowers in the field when I saw a white rabbit going into the woods. I trailed its path, and when I am about to catch it, it hops further away until its nowhere to be seen.   I kept on searching for the rabbit behind the bushes, peeped into barks and holes. I was so eager to catch the rabbit but I stopped when I sensed strong energy that made my skin shivers and gave me goosebumps.   I can't explain what it was, but I can sense that there is a powerful collective energy that surrounds me.   My vision becomes clear as I opened my eyes; I can see visible dancing airwaves-like that surround me. I reached out my hand to touch it and I felt the warmth as it passes through my flesh.   The energy is overwhelming and beautiful; it's like you are surrounded by an Aurora Borealis in a circular motion.   I got excited and became more eager to know what is it beyond the circular and colorful waves of collective energy.   I continued walking until I bumped into a man; he is tall, dark, and masculine.   He wears a white formal European suit. He wears a Pilgrim hat.   His eyes are dark green, and he looked at me. I was startled when he kneeled to greet me.   "Our Princess, welcome to the Passage," he said in a deep voice.   I am puzzled and looked at him quizzically; I can't help but questioned him.   "Who are you?"   "I'm the Guardian of the Passage." he promptly answers in a gentle tone.   "Guardian of the Passage; what do you mean by that?" I urged him.   "The Guardian of the Passage, someone that guards and protects the Passage that is connecting our Kingdom to the other World."   "Other World; you're telling me there is another World?"   "Yes, there is. At the end of the Passage, you can enter the other World."   "That is amazing. All this time I thought it was a myth."   "It is a made-up story for everyone who can't see the Passage. In every generation, there is only chosen one from the Royal blood of our Kingdom who can see the Passage and can walk through it."   " I can't believe that I'm here now, and I can see it."   "Yes, you can see the Passage because it is your gift."   "What do you mean?"   "Your royalty, your bloodline carries the power to see the collective energy of the Passage. You have the special gift and power to keep that collective energy strong. This energy helps maintain our Kingdom and to keep the balance of both Worlds."   I am already twelve at that time and I still can't decipher what the so-called Guardian of the Passage was trying to tell me.   I reached out my hand and let the energy passed through me.   It feels light and I smiled as the waves danced through me. "It's beautiful." I blurted out.   "Yes it is, we have to protect its beauty for it helps the stability of both our Kingdom and the other World. We have to protect those energies and make sure many people will keep on contributing to that positive energy."   "You mean this beautiful energy can be destroyed?   "Yes, if we let them vanish the positive energy and the negative energy will take over. It will destroy the balance of both Worlds and destroys beautiful hearts."   "That is sad." I still can't comprehend what the Guardian is trying to tell me. All I know is I feel awful about what he said.   "Your grandma and your mother can also see the Passage. They can pass through the Passage and go to the other World. But unexpected things happened to your mother."   "About my mother, you know what happened to her? Tell me."   "I can't. It is not the right time. If you have enough courage, you can cross the Passage and see for yourself."   "You want me to walk through the unknown Passage that leads me to the place I don't even know."   "That is why you need courage."   "What will happen if I become afraid?"   "Only you will know."   "Don't you think something scary happened to my mother when she crossed the Passage?"   "Princess, my lips are sealed. I am not allowed to talk about it."   "Why? Who told you not to talk about it? Who forbid you from speaking?"   "I apologize my Princess, but there are answers that you need to seek for yourself. I am here to guide you. To guard and protect the Passage, our Kingdom, and the Royalty."   "I don't understand a single thing you are saying."   "You are a young lady my Princess, you still have a long way to go. Just take your time and collect your courage."   I stared at the Passage around me, the energy that surrounds me. My view becomes blurry as I lost consciousness.   When I opened my eyes, I saw the worried look of my grandmother. I'm inside my room now; I feel she is brushing my hair.   "Are you feeling better now Sierra?"   I tried to clear my throat and replied: "Yes Grandma, I am fine."   "What happened? We found you in the woods, lying there, sleeping."   "I can't remember anything Grandma."   I'm trying to recall what has happened.   "Grandma, did you see anything in the woods?"   "Oh, are you asking me if I saw the one you were looking for in the woods?" she looked straight into my eyes.   "What did you see, Grandma?"   She smiled at me and showed me the rabbit that I was looking for.   "Is this the one you were looking for?"   "Rabbit." I blurted unconsciously; Grandma noticed that I am upset.   "Why? Is this not what you were looking for?"   "Oh, I smiled at her. "Yes Grandma, I went into the woods to follow the rabbit"   I examined her face and I want to ask her about my blurred memories. She told me she didn't see anything other than me sleeping in the woods.   I am trying to fathom the idea if my Grandma is telling the truth that she didn't see anything there.   My Grandma is the former Queen before my mother; her blood is the highest rank of Royalty among us.   My trail of memories flowed; my vision of the collective energy and what I felt in that very moment inside the Passage.   I saw the Passage and met the strange man who called himself the "Guardian of the Passage".   I remembered when the Guardian told me that it runs in our blood that we are capable of seeing the Passage. I stared at my Grandma's face and tried catching the slightest hint if she knew about the Passage.   I wonder why she didn't say anything about the Passage when the Guardian already told me that she can see it.   "Grandma, have you seen the Passage?" The words just slipped through my mouth.   "Passage"   "Yes, the one that you've been telling me in your stories since I was young."   "Oh, you already saw the Passage."   "Grandma, you know that Passage is not a myth. It's true and it exists."   My grandmother gave me a sly smile and replied, "So it is your time."     Copyright: This story is solely my ideas and creative thinking.
