The rival alpha lay in the dirt, his body battered and broken from the fight. Rowan stood over him, his chest heaving as he caught his breath, the sweat on his skin mingling with the blood from the battle.
The rival alpha’s eyes flashed with anger, but he didn’t move. The challenge was clear: Rowan had won. But it had come at a cost. Rowan’s body trembled with exhaustion, the weight of the fight leaving him on the edge of collapse.
“I will leave,” the rival alpha snarled, “but know this, Alpha. You may have won this fight, but you have not won the hearts of your pack. They are waiting for you to fail.”
