Dobbs didn’t like the way things were developing. He had a chambermaid sat down in front of him in floods of tears, sniffing one minute, gasping the next, and Mrs Wilson, beautifully dressed as usual, standing in the doorway glaring at Sharon. He cleared his throat noisily and looked first at the wailing Sharon and then at Joanne. She moved forward suddenly, with great agility and was soon sitting herself down and facing Sharon. She repeated her question again and added that she expected an answer. It was her husband being discussed.
