The hairless black beast came out of the ferns at a full run. Gril barely had time to twist out of its way. The creature’s right front claw swept out and sliced his arm before it hit the ground and turned to attack again. Gril pulled his laser pistol, but the creature attacked again before he could fire. He gripped the creature’s front legs and tossed him to the side. The beast twisted in midair and landed back on its feet. Gril snarled and pulled the blade from his boot. In one swift, fluid move, he threw his only weapon at the creature as it leaped a third time. The blade sank deep into the center of the creature’s chest and it fell to the ground—dead before it hit.
