Chapter 5: Screaming Shadows

I saw the bones of my left arm pop, the skin stretching grotesquely around them. Panic surged through me, but there was no time to react. My other arm followed, the bones snapping, reshaping, and my insides twisted violently as if they were being rearranged by some unseen force. In all my pain I wanted to scream, but no sound came out. My breath caught in my throat, the pain stealing my voice as my body convulsed. My spine arched, every vertebrae cracking, elongating. The sensation was beyond agony, a tearing, burning pain that radiated through every nerve in my body. I could feel my jaw elongating, teeth sharpening, and nails growing into razor-like claws. The transformation was uncontrollable, an unstoppable force tearing through me, forcing me to become something I feared and did not fully understand. I had always known there was something different about me, something lurking just beneath the surface of my skin, but I had never imagined it would be like this—so violent, so brutal that made me wish for death instead again. I fell forward onto all fours, the ground cold and unforgiving beneath my hands—no, my paws. Black fur sprouted from my skin, coarse and dark as midnight, covering every inch of me. My eyes burned, the world around me turning into a black-and-white blur as my vision shifted, the colors of the forest fading into shades of gray. I could feel the power coursing through me, dark and potent, an ancient force awakening within me that I had kept suppressed for so long. Shadows began to swirl around me, creeping out from the forest floor, twisting and writhing like living things. They reached for me, whispering in a language I could not understand but felt deep within my bones. I took a shuddering breath, my senses sharpening. I could hear the heartbeat of every living creature around me, the fluttering of wings, the rustle of leaves in the wind, even the soft thud of a distant owl landing on a branch. My new eyes adjusted to the darkness, seeing clearly through the shadows, every detail in the forest now vividly clear. I tried to reach out to the wolf inside me, to connect with it, to understand what was happening, but there was only silence. It was as if a wall stood between us, an impenetrable barrier that kept me from hearing its thoughts, its voice. The wolf was there, in control, but it did not speak to me. It did not offer me comfort or guidance. It only moved, guided by instinct and the call of the shadows that now swirled around us. The pain began to ebb, replaced by a strange numbness. I pushed myself up, feeling the powerful muscles beneath my fur, the strength in my limbs. The scent of the forest filled my nostrils, a cacophony of smells that told a thousand stories: the damp earth, the scent of prey, the musk of predators, the faint trace of Marcus’s cologne. I knew I had to find him, to make sure I was safe and in a safe environment that wasn’t the dead zone of the woods. But as I tried to focus on his scent, another feeling stirred within me—a darker, more primal urge. The power of shadows and death was not just a gift; it was a part of what my counterpart was blessed with in the most twisted and sickening way yet it felt right, a constant whisper in my mind, urging me to give in, to let go of my human restraint and embrace the darkness fully. I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts, but the shadows only grew thicker around me, curling up my legs, wrapping around my torso like tendrils of smoke. They were alive, sentient, responding to my every emotion, my every fear. I had to keep moving, had to find Marcus before this power consumed me completely. These powers I needed to control all on my own, but right now I couldn’t focus on that, I had a deadline to return to the damn castle my fiancée resides in. I took a tentative step forward, my paws sinking into the soft earth, and then another, each movement fluid and graceful. The forest seemed to part before me, the shadows creating a path, guiding me deeper into the darkness. I could feel the presence of something ancient and powerful watching me, testing me, waiting to see what I would do. The further I went, the more I realized there was no going back. The wolf inside me was awake now, its power flowing through me, changing me in ways I could not yet comprehend. I was no longer just Lourdes, the human CEO or the princess in hiding. I was something more, something both terrifying and beautiful. And as I moved through the shadows, I knew that this was just the beginning. The darkness had claimed me, but I would not let it define me. I would find Marcus, and I would learn to control this power, to understand the wolf within and the shadows that whispered my name. For now, all I could do was run, following the trail of scents and shadows, racing against the night, with the darkness as my only companion. Running in a speed that had left me feeling as if I was flying I looked at the shadows and felt the urge to jump on the shadows they offered, the shadows surrounding me screaming me to do so. Without thinking more on these desires I jumped in the shadows, each step I took felt as if I was gliding and in no time the darkness that surrounded me cleared to show me I was in the snow, facing mountains that had a grand castle in the middle with villages surrounding its majestic white whiles that is under the heavy snow. The shadows that surrounded me and grabbed tightly onto my paws whispered, follow us, follow us. And I saw a shadow by my side that faced the back side of none other than Marcus. A loud growl escaped me and moving to face where he stood I began to get ready to pounce on him, the entire moment he stood still and there I saw in front of him the one Elder that agreed to have us both married. Raising my rage even more and without thinking about when, I pounced on Marcus and slammed his body to the wall. Hearing the elder shout in shock and fear I placed my attention to the old bastard, growling I snapped my attention to the old man. With his hands in front of him to protect himself he pleaded to me. “Spare me demon of hell! Spare me and I shall worship you for as long as I live!” Not moving from where I stood the shadows that had a firm grip around me dispersed and went to hide within the walls of the castle. Thinking of changing back into my human body I started to think about my human body and slowly felt the agonizing pain of my bones rearranging. Almost back into my human state the shadows that had ran through the castle returned to me screaming, yelling and holding garments of clothes, in no time I was dressed in a red with white dress, a white veil was placed on my head with my hair placed neatly in a bun, another screaming bloody murder placed my crown in place and matching thick covered heels to match my look from another shadow. Seeing how my transformation had given the Elder chills and fearful eyes directed to me, we both heard the growl of someone. Turning I’m met with Marcus hand on my neck.
