Chapter 27The Mysterious Mr Schmidt
Brother Michael led the trio at a brisk pace across the perfectly manicured grass that separated the winery from the main complex, which comprised the traditional monastery buildings. As they entered the main complex, he led them around the cloister and through the monk's dormitory; exiting through a door, they entered a small garden in which stood the Abbot's house. This was a purpose-built dwelling whose title required no explanation.
Not large or ostentatious, the Abbott's house was built in the style of the 18th-century monastery and was in keeping with its surroundings. Brother Michael explained that is was built over a hundred years ago when the Abbotts of St. Thomas's entertained church dignitaries on a regular basis. He didn't bother to explain
