9 ESCAPE AND EVADE In a dimly lit warehouse, clangs of metal on metal broke the silence that was prevalent elsewhere. The sun was close to the horizon and would be disappearing before long. Irving and Phelonius circled each other, swords drawn. Periodically, Irving would press the attack with flurries of slashes to the head and waist alternately. Phelonius parried each attack easily. Once Irving had finished his attack, his front foot slid back slightly. Phelonius pressed an attack. Irving managed to parry each attack with his sword. After a parried low strike, Phelonius slid his blade between Irving and his sword, stopping the point a fraction of an inch from Irving’s lower jaw.
