“See?” I'm holding the paper with the results up to Nate's face. “Perfectly healthy, as I knew it would be.”
“I knew it, sweetie,” Steve puts an arm around my shoulders. “I tried to talk Nate out of making you do that, but the man wouldn't listen.”
“It was your idea, Steve,” Nate confesses, rolling his eyes.
“Who's the traitor now?” I push Steve away from me, showing him the bird. “I'll never buy anything from Maggie again.”
“How could you do this, Nate?” Steve whines, hanging on to his shirt. “Those candies saved me every time I had low blood sugar. Do you want me to die?”
“Yeah, yeah,” Nate's complains. “See the bright side, Jas. It helped you know there's nothing wrong, you can give a copy of that to Coach next time there’s a test at the college.”
