CHAPTER 3 Lia woke up to the insistent buzzing of her cell phone. “What is it, Jerry?” she asked, still half asleep. “Wake up, sunshine. It’s 8:00.” “What?” She bolted out of bed and ran to dress in two seconds. Forget the morning shower, forget breakfast, no time. She took the stairs instead of the elevator, which would have made her queasy stomach unbearable, and ran to the street.
