Chapter threeImilda did not cry for very long. But she felt as if she was sitting in darkness and there was no light to show her the way out. She stayed in her room for a time. Then she pulled herself together, put on her riding clothes and went to the stables. She had one horse which she loved more than any of the others. Apollo was all black except for a single white star on his nose. He started moving about his stall the moment he heard Imilda coming into the yard. She told one of the stable boys to saddle him and then she rode off alone, going into the woods, where she always took all her troubles. There was something that she always thought magical about the dimness of the woods with the sun sliding through the leaves that cast a pattern of gold on the mossy paths. She loved
