Chapter NineDawn broke over the sleepy Texas town, gently waking a couple who lay tangled together in a small bed in a pocket-sized apartment. After a restless night, they faced each other, eyes red and hair rumpled. “Are you ready?” Gavin asked. Annabelle blinked, clearly trying to chase the cobwebs from her brain. “Ready?” “Yes, to try to get more answers out of the surly Miss Jamison.” “How do you plan on doing that?” she asked. “It's unlikely the young lady will be more willing to talk today than she was yesterday, and we've already attracted the attention of something dark and powerful. This isn't the time to go raging around like a bull. We're already in danger.” “Danger?” He raised an eyebrow at her. “What danger?” “I know you heard it knocking,” Annabelle told him solemnly.
