The journey to the remote cottage on the outskirts of the church’s land took no more than fifteen minutes. As the weather looked changeable it was decided all three men would travel in Father James’ coach. Mathew took charge of the reins to allow the priest and Vincent a chance to discuss matters on a more personal level. Before leaving, Father James had excused himself before returning minutes later with a small leather bag, which he now held firmly on his lap in the carriage. As they arrived at the cottage the first specks of rain began to fall. Mathew banged on the door with the side of his fist, and seconds later the door was opened by one of his team.
