Chapter Six As the Count rode through the forest, he was seething with rage. In fact he was so angry that his whole body was shaking with fury. He had believed in Roxana, in her perfection and her purity and had lain awake almost all night thinking of her. He had told himself that he had found someone so unique and so unusual that she was like a gift from the Gods. When he had walked into the courtyard and seen that something was occurring between her and the Governor, his first impulse was to tell His Excellency what he thought of him and even knock him down.
