Day Eleven Dear Diary, Masquerade night! Note: this time, the exclamation point totally works. All day long, my skin feels too tight. Nervous energy zings through me. Time ekes by as I wait for the masquerade to start. What a bummer that summer elves are nocturnal. It seems to take forever before Poppa and Muti fall asleep (actually it’s more like eight o’clock). Once they’re snoring, I sneak off to the summer palace and magically transform change into my costume. Dang, I look amazing. Behold, for I am Calla the pink baby llama. Joining the crowd, I sashay through the front door. As the paintings showed, the summer elves don’t wear a lot. On the other hand, the winter elf guys sport fitted black shirts, matching trousers, and half masks. The ladies are in shimmery dresses of winter
