Herdwin returned, as promised, before dark, but his news was not what they hoped for. Being eager to quickly rid himself of his wares, he had to take what he was offered. In addition, there was only one horse available for purchase and the sorry looking animal was far from ideal.
"It'll at least carry one person," explained Herdwin. "I thought it better than nothing."
"True," admitted Beverly, "but we can't wait any longer, we must get moving tonight, under cover of darkness."
"Where do we stand?" asked Gerald.
