One morning when Helgha opened her door, she found a grey cat huddled there. The little creature opened its mouth to mew, but little came out. Helgha picked it up and returned to the house. “What’s that?” Biorn peered at Helgha’s arms. “A poor little cat. I think it’s hungry. I’ll give it something to eat.” The cat ate hungrily and then stalked around the house, exploring. Once it had been everywhere, it jumped onto a bench, turned round a few times on the fur lying there, then curled up and went to sleep. “I think it wants to live here,” Biorn said.
