Helgha left Erik and returned to Inga"s house. The old woman jumped as the girl entered.
“Oh, it"s you. Thank goodness,” she said. “I thought those people had come back. Did the Jarl find you? He was wonderful. He sent them all away.”
Helgha went to her mentor and hugged her. “I"m sorry this happened. It"s all because of me. Dagmar had something to do with it. She wants my children, but she"s not going to get them.”
“They said you"re a witch. Someone said they saw a demon on the roof, then a lot of others admitted they saw it too. I don"t know what they saw, but the Jarl said nothing was there.”
Helgha emptied her gathered herbs onto a table and began to sort them. “We need to get on with our work. If we can show people we"re helping and not harming them, they"ll soon forget this witch
