Chapter 24Sam sat propped up in Maire's bed. One hand cradled his cell phone while the other hung over the side of the bed, holding a dog biscuit for Beatrice to munch on. As he waited on hold, he stared down at his growing file on Madsen, which had been retrieved for him from his place in Chalmette.
In spite of the fact that Ramona could trust Maire, Sam had called Antoine at Tujagues Restaurant and asked his old friend to drive out to warn Ramona that someone from the Gentleman's Club would be dropping by. Sam wanted to honor Ramona's request not to divulge her whereabouts, and he knew Ramona had lucked out once by not being there when Celeste had gone by. Two times would be tempting fate.
