BATH, SOMERSET, 2023 AD AND CHALLACOMBE MOOR, 1790 AD
In an exquisite moment of synchronicity and irony, both Alice and Jake were thinking of travelling back to Georgian England—more precisely, to 1790. She had found a leaflet in the hotel foyer describing the re-evoked Georgian townhouse at No.1 Royal Crescent which was open to the public for a small admission fee. The house was furnished and decorated with authentic furniture and paintings of the period, so she decided to pay a morning visit.
Jake, meanwhile, was comparing his historic chart of the Challacombe area with a modern ordnance survey map. The current map did not depart greatly from its eighteenth-century predecessor. One important detail was missing, however. It was not difficult for Jake to pinpoint the stell with
