“I am waiting,” she said after a moment and there was a defiant note in her voice.
“The last time, I saw you,” the Earl began, “you told me you were carrying my child.”
Lady Genevieve smiled.
“That is true,” she said. “I thought that it would please you to have an heir to carry on the family name. Is not that what every man requires?”
“In certain circumstances, yes,” the Earl agreed. “But I would wish, of course, to be quite sure that the child is mine.”
Lady Genevieve opened her eyes very wide.
“Osric, how can you doubt such a thing? You must know that there has been no one else in my life since we loved each other. You are everything to me, everything! How could you imagine that I would even look at another man?”
