3.15 Gordon’s house in East Fremantle was one block from the bus stop. She alighted the bus and walked along the narrow pavement, checking the house numbers, ducking to avoid a low bottlebrush branch when she reached his front gate. She could see from the frontage that his house was a duplex, an old brick home with sash windows and a bull-nose veranda all around, sliced down the middle to form two dwellings.
