Carmella stared at the Marquis with her eyes wide and astonished and he said,
“I believed that Bramforde was your lover and it has driven me nearly insane.”
“My – lover?” Carmella exclaimed. “How could you – think I would do anything so wrong or so – wicked?”
The Marquis bent forward so that his face was very near to hers.
Then he said,
“When we looked at my picture together, I then wanted more than I have ever wanted anything in my life to kiss you and now there is nothing to stop me.”
