Chapter 9: Seeking Refuge

576 Palabras
After Chris's temporary departure, Solange found herself immersed in a whirlwind of emotions: relief for the momentary calm and worry about the uncertain future ahead. Luna, too, seemed affected, sensing the shift in the household atmosphere. Solange knew they needed a safe space, far away from her ex-husband's threatening presence. One afternoon, while Luna played in the backyard, Solange called her best friend, Mariana. They had been confidantes since childhood, and Solange trusted her judgment and support. "Hey, Sol? How are you?" Mariana answered the phone with her warm, familiar voice. "I'm okay, but... it's been a tough week," Solange replied honestly. "Chris is gone for now, but I don't feel like anything has really changed. It was just a temporary truce." Mariana sighed on the other end of the line. "I'm so sorry, Sol. How are you handling all of this?" Solange hesitated before answering. "I'm worried about Luna. I don't want her growing up in this tense environment. I've been thinking about leaving for a while, maybe visiting my parents in the city. I need space to think and figure out what to do next." Mariana nodded, though Solange couldn't see her. "I think that's a good idea. When are you planning to leave?" "Maybe next week," Solange replied. "I want to make sure Luna is ready and that everything is sorted out here." After talking with Mariana, Solange began making preparations for their trip. She discussed the idea of visiting her grandparents with Luna, and to her relief, Luna seemed excited about seeing her grandparents and exploring a new place. Over the next few days, Solange arranged to temporarily close the library and organized their journey. She spoke with her parents, explaining the situation without going into details about Chris, but making it clear they needed a safe place to stay for a while. Finally, the day of the trip arrived. Solange and Luna packed their belongings into the car and temporarily bid farewell to Monteverde. Though Solange felt a mix of sadness and relief leaving their temporary home, she knew it was a necessary step to protect her daughter and find clarity amidst emotional chaos. The journey to the city was peaceful and filled with anticipation. Luna was fascinated by the idea of staying with her grandparents, and Solange found comfort in the familiar warmth awaiting them. Upon arrival, they were welcomed with open arms. Solange's parents, while concerned about the situation, were happy to have them home and ready to provide all the support they needed. Solange found solace in the familiar atmosphere and the security of being surrounded by love and understanding. During the initial weeks in the city, Solange and Luna enjoyed the company of extended family. Solange took the time to relax, reflect on her life in Monteverde, and make important decisions about their future. Distance from Chris allowed her to gain a new perspective on their relationship and what she truly wanted for her daughter and herself. However, as the days passed, a sense of unease lingered in the back of her mind. She knew she would have to face Chris again eventually and decide how to proceed. In the meantime, the support of her family and the security of being away from Chris's negative influence were a balm for her weary soul. The future remained uncertain, but Solange was determined to do whatever it took to protect Luna and secure a better future for them both.
