She had no idea that, wearing the fashionable gown which had come from the best and most expensive shop in Bond Street, she assumed a new and delightful beauty that made even David look at her admiringly. Dinner, as she might have well been expected, was excellent and, although she very much despised herself for doing so, she enjoyed every dish. She talked very little over dinner because David, excited by good food and wine and the prospect of his journey to Ireland, talked without drawing breath.
