CHAPTER NINE A persistent tap on the door shook Charlotte out of the part-sleep, part-daze she’d fallen into. She clambered off the sofa, almost tripping over shoes she’d left ready to put on for work. Dressed for the day ahead, makeup and hair in place, she’d sat down for a moment to regroup.
