Chapter 31After Andy left to get coffee, Janet looked up at Nate. “He feels bad.” “Well, he should,” Nate snapped. He softened his tone. “And why are you defending him?” “What do you mean?” “Well, Megan said he sort of blew you off.” Janet closed her eyes. Megan, when are you going to learn to keep your mouth shut? “He didn't blow me off. He had things to think over,” she said, looking back up at her son's furrowed brow. But she couldn't deny she was leery and it prompted one of Neil's little sayings to come tumbling back. In her mind's eye, she could see him telling Nate that trust was a product of consistency multiplied over time.
