13 Tarkyn awoke in pitch darkness, frozen to the bone. He realised that a little bundle of warmth, in the shape of Midnight, lay curled up asleep against his chest and stomach. He smiled, knowing that Midnight must have crawled in under his wolfskin cloak at some time during the night while he was asleep. He wondered what time it was and what had woken him. As he listened, he could hear the wind whistling through the trees outside. Gradually, he tuned into a debate raging through the minds of the woodfolk. He could feel their indecision and anxiety but could not hear what they were saying. He sent a query and received back an image of their shelters buried under snow drifts. Then he received pictures that alternated between huddled waiting within the shelters or fighting their way agains
