Ruth drove to Yachats State Park late the next afternoon. Asahi followed her in his rental car. She kept glancing up at the mirror to make sure that he was there.
A part of her worried that she’d made a mistake sharing the information Magna had given her with Asahi. What if she’d inadvertently broken the spell that was supposed to take her to Mike? Her eyes moved to the red shell tucked in the cup holder. She had lifted it to her ear a thousand times since Magna had given it to her and still not heard a sound – not even the hum of the ocean.
