The hidden profession, Unscrupulous Merchant, has strict yet simple conditions. It can only be triggered at the innkeeper in the novice village, if you enter the game without killing any monsters and without any tasks. This is how Aurélien triggered the profession by immediately abandoning the starting tasks upon entering the game.
The Unscrupulous Merchant profession might seem useless, but for Aurélien, it’s extremely valuable.
"Confirm the choice!"
[Ding! Congratulations to player Empereur des affaires, for choosing the only hidden profession: Unscrupulous Merchant!]
[Ding! You have received a job change reward: 1000 gold coins.]
[Ding! You have received job change equipment: Peddler's Shoes!]
As the announcement ended, Aurélien’s skill bar disappeared completely. His inventory now had 1000 gold coins and a pair of cloth shoes.
It’s no surprise that it’s a hidden profession—after all, 1000 gold coins were given right away.
In "World," the in-game currency is interchangeable with real money at a 1:10 ratio.
1000 gold coins are equivalent to 100 dollars.
The shoes also have decent attributes.
Peddler's Shoes: Made from comfortable licking dog leather, durable and practical, increases movement speed.
Level: Blue
Required Level: 0
Required Profession: Unscrupulous Merchant
Movement Speed +4
Health Recovery +1
Equipment Score: 142 points (Bound and cannot be traded)
These attributes are very useful.
Automatically received profession task: Recruit Thugs
Task Description: As an Unscrupulous Merchant, you need to handle dangerous situations, find the innkeeper, and recruit thugs!
The system voice finally stopped.
The innkeeper smiled and said, “Brave young man, as you travel through the world, protecting yourself is crucial. I have three thugs for you to choose from!”
Three cards appeared before Aurélien.
White Card: Bandit (Warrior)
White Card: Loli with an Axe (Warrior)
Green Card: Night Cat Demon (Assassin)
Aurélien looked at the cards with interest: “These character designs are great!”
The innkeeper chuckled, “Thugs can also change professions with you!”
In the corner of the interface, there was a green button.
It said, "10 gold coins to refresh once."
That’s ten dollars.
Thugs come in eight tiers: White, Green, Blue, Purple, Yellow, Red, Gold, and Rainbow. This corresponds to the equipment rarity levels.
Aurélien, being a low-level Unscrupulous Merchant, can only refresh thugs of up to purple rarity.
There is a 1% chance for a purple thug, a 9% chance for blue, a 30% chance for green, and a 60% chance for white.
“Let’s try with one dollar!”
“Shuffle again!”
Aurélien clicked the button.
The cards in front of him spun and disappeared.
When they reappeared, three new cards appeared:
White Card: Girl Riding a Pig (Hunter)
White Card: Foolish Swordsman (Swordsman)
White Card: Ugly Knifeman (Knifeman)
“Shuffle again!”
Aurélien didn’t hesitate at all.
These three were worse than the first ones.
White Card: Masked Knifeman (Knifeman)
Green Card: Poison Girl (Sorcerer)
Purple Card: Centennial Zombie (Fist Master)
Aurélien’s eyes widened as he looked at the Maoshan disciple: “Purple!!”
The innkeeper exclaimed, “Young man, you’re lucky! The rarity represents the number of skills they have, and purple means they have three skills.”
Aurélien was hoping for a blue one at best but didn’t expect to get a purple one.
Aurélien didn’t hesitate: “Hire him!”
[Ding! Are you sure you want to hire him?]
[Hiring cost: 500 gold coins.]
The price seemed reasonable.
Aurélien had no problem spending this amount: “Confirm hiring!”
As soon as the voice ended, 500 gold coins were automatically deducted from his inventory.
The card transformed into an equipment item and was bound to Aurélien’s equipment bar.
The innkeeper laughed and said, “Congratulations, young man, you’re really lucky!”
Aurélien nodded: “Thank you, madam!”
The innkeeper flicked her fox tail lazily, resting it on Aurélien's shoulder, and kissed his cheek lightly.
Her breath was like orchids, and she whispered, “May the God of Deceit protect you!”
The NPCs in “World” are indeed quite bold.
Other players in the tavern were left dumbfounded.
“He... how did he do that? Please tell me how!”
“No way!! Despicable, using the handsome man’s strategy!”
“Damn it! I’m shocked, why do I get a system warning when I touch her?”
While the others stared at him in astonishment, anger, envy, and curiosity, Aurélien confidently walked out of the tavern.
The first step went even more smoothly than expected.
Looking at the thriving novice village, Aurélien clenched his fists: “I don’t have much time left!”
His mind kept racing through the game’s mechanics.
“At this point, no one has discovered pig hair and rabbit hair yet.”
…
Arriving at the entrance of the novice village, the area was crowded with players still entering the game. At the village entrance, chickens playing with balls refreshed.
Going further out was the vegetable garden, where pigs and rabbits with sticks appeared.
It’s a place with many players and few monsters. As soon as the monsters spawn, they get taken out.
“Hey brother, want to team up and do a quest?”
“We need one more person to kill pigs, private message to join!”
Aurélien sat cross-legged in the middle of the crowd.
“System, start setting up a stall!”
To the astonishment of everyone around, Aurélien immediately began setting up a stall.
A golden signboard floated above his head, emitting dazzling light.
It read: “Buying Rabbit Hair and Pig Hair.”
“Hey, how can he set up a stall in the monster zone?”
“Why is his sign golden? That’s so cool!”
The curious players clicked on Aurélien’s stall.
There were no items for sale, only a purchase section for rabbit hair and pig hair, which are dropped by pigs and rabbits in the vegetable garden.
“These items are useless, what’s he collecting them for?”
“Maybe he’s a fool, the grocery store buys them for 1 gold coin, and he’s buying for 2! I’ll sell them!”
“Quick, there’s a fool here buying rabbit hair and pig hair!”
They ran back to the village’s grocery store, but the price there was lower than Aurélien’s, so more people came to sell to him.
In just a short while, Aurélien’s business boomed.
The remaining 480 gold coins were all exchanged for rabbit hair and pig hair.
120 rabbit hairs, 120 pig hairs.
The other players looked at Aurélien as though he were a fool.
Aurélien, however, was concerned: “I don’t have enough money now. Looks like I’ll need to recharge a little!”
