"Hurry up, boys," Markings ordered quite excitedly as the men trooped into the large room.
As the boxes were being ripped open, suspense filled Chloe's soul.
From the safety of Nathaniel's arm, she craned her neck to observe the search. Once the items within the boxes were confirmed, it was her plan to make a run for it and never be seen near the NAG brothers.
"Well?" Marking asked one of the men who was staring in wonder at one of the opened boxes.
"Sir…”
“What?”
“All that's here are clothes.”
"Same here," another officer said from a corner.
"What do you mean by clothes?" Markings rushed into the compartment and true to the man's discovery, as the angry man dug into the box, packaged clothes came flying out.
"That dude better not ruin those goods. His poor ass will be wrecked from paying them back,” Amir said as he watched the dramatic display Markings was entertaining them with.
“I love how foolish he looks right now,” Gabriel added and Amir smiled in agreement.
“Next time, he won't be stupid,” Nathaniel concluded, his voice seeping into Chloe's ears.
"There has to be something!" Markings angrily yelled as he tore the nylon shielding the packaged clothes. "Check everything! Every box, every cloth! We have to find it!"
"Oh my God. Those are custom designs. Look at how he's tossing them around,” complained Amir who rushed into the box to pick up the clothes.
“My coats are not to be toyed with,” Gabriel added and ran after Amir.
Chloe then wondered if the brothers really had nothing illegal going on.
Did the Agency receive false information? Or did they assume things based on Amir's situation with the r**e thing?
Though relieved that she was safe, Chloe concluded that it was time for her to gain access to the truth. It would be a great waste of time and emotions if she keeps investigating innocent people.
“Chloe, it's over. Don't be worried.”
She looked up at Nathaniel and stopped biting into her lower lip.
“I wasn't worried,” she replied. As she watched a little smile grow on his lips, she asked, “Why are you guys hiding this many clothes?”
With a jerk of his brows, he replied, “It's a thank you gift from Sanquire Clothings.”
“Oh.”
“We saved the company from bankruptcy, and these unreleased, unique designs were our gifts.”
“I see.”
“We're keeping them here for now. Once we have a list of people we'd like to share them with, they'll be shipped out.”
Chloe nodded as she pieced the information together. It explained a lot about the Sanquire woman mentioned at that party with the chocolate fountain. It also explained the stated money and coded account number she found on the flash drive.
Was she really wasting her time here?
To act as innocently as possible, she asked, “Why do you think this Wood guy believes you were storing something illegal?”
Nathaniel shrugged, and his hand pressed a bit deeper into her waist. "We have many business rivals who are quite loud about wanting to get rid of us. Thankfully, we don't have a traitor amongst us. If not, a lot of attempts in the past and even this one would have worked.”
Chloe drew a sharp breath.
But she felt more suffocated.
So, slowly, she reached to remove his arm from her waist.
But that action pushed Nathaniel into grabbing her hand and entwining it with his.
The feel of his palm against hers generously contributed to the heat she was feeling.
And when she turned her head to him, her soul was plunged into delightful chaos as he was now closer, his nose almost touching hers.
“I told you I can get enough of you,” he whispered and her throat felt dry.
"You…you did?" Her throat felt dry.
His eyes thoughtfully narrowed for a second. Then, he said, "Maybe I didn't use those exact words. But now I am saying it."
Chloe's eyes darted over every detail of his face. "You can't-"
A smile on his lips, he repeated, "I can't get enough of you. And..." His thumb made a slow, body-warming dance against her hand. "I don't care that you work for me. I do care about this uniform, though.”
His smile was so gorgeous. It easily distracted her thoughts.
"You do?"
"Trust me, Chloe." His head ducked closer, and she stood still, her eyes dancing. "One day, I will take that uniform off you in a way that you’ll never forget. What happens afterwards..." His smirk grew. "You won't be able to handle it."
Chloe almost groaned because she felt a little pinch between her legs.
Nathaniel wasn't done.
He released her hand. The next second, a finger or two snakes towards her waist. Sneakingly, he moved past her top and that was when Chloe remembered she wasn't putting on a bra.
"Nathaniel, stop it."
"Stop what?" he asked innocently, but his fingers were already drawing a line from the base of her breasts down to her waist.
A slow, igniting line.
"St-" she swallowed as she felt her toes curl with a need for more.
"What?"
Her eyes fluttered as he repeated his action.
"They are watching Nathaniel."
His eyes were still amusedly on her as he replied, "No, they are not." Ducking his head even closer, he went to her ear and said, "Even if they are, let them watch. They should all know that you..." He blew onto her lobe, and she gasped. "...are mine."
Chloe had no idea she was clutching the end of his shirt.
The thing she just felt was so... good. No, it was amazing.
She wondered if that was what she was missing by never being in a relationship. Or maybe she was just lucky to have someone who knew how to tease so well.
Whichever it was, she knew she was liking that moment very much.
"That Wood guy just tore that place apart," Gabriel approached them, and Nathaniel drew his torturing fingers back.
With a disappointed sigh, Nathaniel looked ahead, and so did Chloe.
Torn boxes here, clothes there, some shoes too, Markings had successfully turned the place into a great mess.
Nathaniel was about to say something when Markings came out.
"You men got lucky today. But it won't be like this next time because we have our eyes on you.”
"We could give you some clothes for your troubles," Amir mocked from behind.
"Do I look like a beggar? Boys! Let's get the hell out of here."
"Yeah, do that. And never come back," Nathaniel said firmly.
"Good riddance to bad shit."
"Amir, it is bad rubbish, not bad s**t," Gabriel corrected.
"You think I don't know that? Please..."
Gabriel threw up his arms, giving up.
After Markings and his men had left, the four of them walked to the mess ahead.
"Who is going to clean this up?" Amir asked. "Wait.” His brows jerked as he looked at the others. “Why are you all looking at me like that?"
"Because we are all going to clean it up," Nathaniel commanded.
"Seriously?"
"Don't complain. It's your week off anyway." Gabriel walked into the compartment.
"I would rather be sleeping right now."
"Well, would you rather Chloe cleaned this up by herself?" Even Chloe nodded to back up Nathaniel's question.
Amir's tongue played in his closed mouth as he pondered a bit.
"Well?" Gabriel had already picked a box.
"Okay. Let's do this. Where is Lucille anyway?"
"You gave her time off, remember?" Gabriel replied. "And don't think of calling her to replace you. We are all doing this."
"Yay," Amir said without enthusiasm as he walked into the mess, "I love cleaning things up."
"Just shut up and get to work," Nathaniel said.
Amir gave him an eye roll, followed by the middle finger.
