I was carrying my luggage until I remembered the number of the plaform inscribed in the train pass. There was no platform 9 3/4.
"Mom this ticket says 9 3/4. It is nowhere in sight. Is it what it should have been?"
Mom, Dad, and Danny walked behind me so I needed to stop for a while to wait for them.
"Oh, honey, we'll show you," Dad said, smiling.
Dad and Danny went first and I felt like dreaming. I just couldn't believe it until Mom talked to me in a rather loud voice that snapped me back from trance. She took my hand and started running slowly so then I could follow her. And, yes, we made it through.
After half-running through the wall between platform 9 and 10, a smokey ready-to-go red train was in sight. As much as my amazement to the view, the feeling of excitement and anxiety came creeping in. I hugged my family the tightest I'd ever hugged them, kissed my little Danny, then I got more and more anxious the closer I walked to the entrance of the train. Not many other students were still outside the train saying goodbyes, so I picked up a pace. I kept looking back to my parents waving them goodbye. Mom had her eyes wet, Danny was waving at me with sad eyes, and dad tried hard to hold his tears back, smiling. Tears of joy I bet.
The compartment I was in was empty until I saw a girl with a long bushy hair opened the door and asked if the seats were taken. When I said no, she went straight to the seat in front of me and stuck out her hand introducing herself.
"I'm Hermione Granger. You are?"
"Oh, hello, I'm (Y/n) Madden."
"So, are you a pure-blood, half-blood or a muggleborn?
"Um, what's that supposed to mean?"
"Well, you're a pureblood if your parents and all of their ancestors are both magical, half-blood if one of them is and the other is not, and a muggleborn if none of your parents are. I am a muggleborn since both of my parents are non magical. We call non magical people 'muggle' here."
She talked so fast I barely understand what exactly she was saying. It took me seconds to answer her.
"I am...a pureblood, according to your brief explanation. Both of them went to Hogwarts, Mom's Gryffindor, Dad's Ravenclaw."
"Wow, then you must inherit both traits. Brave and witty," Hermione smiled.
Even before I had the chance to reply, she said again, "So, (Y/n), which house do you want to get sorted in?"
"Hm, I don't know. Anything is possible, really, but I think I want to be put in Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. That's where both my parents went respectively," I giggled a nervous laugh a bit. I was always so awkward with new people.
"What about you, Hermione?"
"Oh, anything but Slytherin actually."
"Why not Slytherin?" I was curious about this because my parents said nothing besides the traits of this particular house before. Hermione's mouth was wide open to answer my question when someone knocked on the compartment door. A chubby boy opened the door and asked us about seeing a toad because he lost it.
Gross, I thought. I'd never liked toads or anything of its kind. Slimy and disgusting. It was different with Hermione. She got up saying "I'll be right back, (Y/n)," and she was back right when the train stopped. It was a lonely journey and I was finally arrived at a world I never knew about.
The first years were all bubbly and thrilled and excited as much as I was. They seemed to have already made friends along the way. That was when I saw a boy with a platinum blonde hair. His face and gestures were so cocky with his chin lifted up high. He was with his two, big, idiotic looking friends with the same look of cockiness. I knew at that moment he and his 'right hands' would be a total pain in the arse to the whole school.
We were all gathered up by a giant man with messy thick beard to board up to a number of boats to get to the school. I was unluckily placed with the snobbish trio.
I was quiet along the way to the castle, until the platinum blonde boy talked to me.
"Who are you?" he said, with a disgusted look as if I was some sort of pig. I swore that if he weren't a stranger living in a strange world, I would just ignore him.
"Madden, (Y/n) Madden."
"Draco Malfoy. They're Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. What are you, Madden?"
I gave out a puzzled look after slightly nodding to the other boys, "What do you mean by that? I'm sorry I'm not following."
Draco smirked and said, "Must not be a pureblood," followed by a trail of laughter from his minions. "What I'm trying to say is-"
I cut him out by answering sternly, "Oh, I am a pure-blood, Malfoy."
"Whoa, easy there, tigress. I was just assuming because you didn't seem to know what I was saying."
I watched him looked at both of his minions, baffled at me getting tense.
"That would probably be because of my knowledge of this world. My parents are both pure-bloods but they tend to choose to live in muggle world because my father is very attracted to muggle's technology. I just knew that I am magical the moment I got the letter."
"Okay, then."
It didn't take too long to get there, because right after Draco was about to ask something else, the giant man, that I found out later was called Hagrid, shouted to inform us that we had arrived.
