“I just wanted to apologize for my behavior."
That was not how I was expecting this Thursday night to go when Mrs. L called me downstairs saying Matilda, our maid who came by once a week, said someone at the door wanted to speak to me.
For one horrifying moment on the steps, I'd thought that maybe the mystery person might have been Parker. He'd called me again last night. No voicemail—never that. But he did leave a text this time. Just a picture of Dee's father oddly enough and the words 'we need to talk' are written underneath. Not capitalized. Lacking the correct grammatical marks I knew Parker used to care about.
