Srikandi stood at the window of her new place. The sun was setting, casting a golden hue over the skyline. She thought about Nico, the man who had captured her heart in a whirlwind romance. Their connection felt genuine, but shadows loomed over their relationship.
Mia, Nico's ex-girlfriend, had resurfaced, and Srikandi sensed trouble on the horizon.
Mia had been charming and effortlessly beautiful, and Srikandi couldn’t shake off the feeling that she was up to something.
The last time Mia had needed Nico’s help was when her car broke down, and Srikandi had watched helplessly as Mia used that opportunity to worm her way back into his life.
Now, it seemed Mia had concocted another strategy to reclaim what she had lost. Srikandi’s heart raced with anxiety, but she was determined to uncover Mia's true intentions and prove her love to Nico.
Srikandi’s phone buzzed on the coffee table, pulling her from her thoughts. It was a message from her new best friend, Rina. Rina met Srikandi in Ibu Nina's bakery. “Hey! Let’s meet up at the café later? I have some news!”
Curiosity piqued, Srikandi quickly typed back her agreement. She needed to clear her mind and perhaps gain some insight into Mia’s background from Rina, who had a knack for gathering information.
The café was a quaint little spot, filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the soft murmur of conversation. Rina was already seated at their usual corner table, her eyes shining with excitement.
“Okay, spill it,” Srikandi said, sitting down. “What’s the scoop?”
Rina leaned in closer. “I heard from Josh that Mia’s been talking about how she wants Nico back. It’s like she’s plotting something.”
Srikandi felt a chill run down her spine. “What do you mean ‘plotting’?”
“She’s been telling people that she’s still in love with him. Apparently, she’s been hanging around his favorite spots, trying to make sure he sees her. It’s like she’s playing games.”
Srikandi clenched her fists, anger bubbling inside her. “I can’t believe this. What does she think she can do? She’s his past. I thought he had moved on.”
Rina sighed.
“It’s complicated. Emotions are messy, and sometimes people don’t know how to let go. You need to talk to Nico about this. He deserves to know.”
After their conversation, Srikandi felt a mix of determination and fear. She knew she had to confront Nico about Mia, but she also needed to trust him. As she left the café, a plan began to form in her mind. She would give Nico the chance to prove his loyalty, to show her that he truly loved her.
Days passed, and Srikandi’s anxiety grew with each interaction she witnessed between Nico and Mia.
They had met at a mutual friend’s party, and Srikandi couldn’t help but notice how Mia seemed to cling to Nico, laughing a little too loudly and leaning in a little too close. Srikandi’s heart ached at the sight.
Later that week, Srikandi decided to invite Nico over for dinner. She hoped it would be a cozy evening where they could talk openly. As she set the table, she mentally prepared herself for the conversation about Mia.
When Nico arrived, he looked handsome as ever, his smile brightening the room. “Wow, you’ve outdone yourself!” he said, admiring the spread of food.
“Thanks! I wanted tonight to be special,” Srikandi replied, her heart fluttering. They sat down to eat, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter and light conversation.
But as the evening wore on, Srikandi’s nerves began to surface.
“Nico, can we talk about something serious?” she finally asked, her voice trembling slightly.
“Of course, what’s on your mind?” he asked, concern etched on his face.
“It’s about Mia,” she said, her heart racing. She watched closely as his expression shifted.
“What about her?” he replied, a hint of defensiveness creeping into his tone.
“I can’t shake the feeling that she’s trying to come between us. I’ve seen how she acts around you, and it worries me,” Srikandi confessed.
Nico sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Look, I know Mia has been around, and I can’t stop her from trying to get my attention. But I’m with you, Srikandi. You’re the one I care about.”
Srikandi felt a flicker of hope but needed reassurance. “But what if she succeeds? What if she finds a way to manipulate you again? She’s done it before.”
Nico leaned forward, his eyes locking onto hers. “I want you to know that I’m not going anywhere. Mia is my past, and I’m done with her games. You mean everything to me.”
Srikandi’s heart swelled at his words, but her mind was still clouded with doubts. “I just need you to prove it to me. I need to see that you’re fully committed to this.”
Nico nodded, determination in his gaze. “I’ll show you. I won’t let her come between us. You have my word.”
The following week, Srikandi received a message from Mia, asking if they could meet to discuss something important. Srikandi felt a rush of apprehension but decided to confront Mia head-on.
Perhaps this was the chance to establish boundaries and prove her strength.
They met at a local park, the air crisp and cool. Mia was sitting on a bench, her expression unreadable as Srikandi approached.
“Thanks for meeting me,” Srikandi said, trying to keep her voice steady.
Mia looked up, her eyes shimmering with a strange mix of emotions. “I wanted to talk about Nico,” she said, her tone surprisingly calm.
“What about him?” Srikandi asked, crossing her arms.
“I know you care about him, but you should know that I still have feelings for him. I’m not going to give up easily,” Mia replied, her voice laced with determination.
Srikandi felt her heart race. “You need to understand that he’s with me now. You had your chance, and you lost him. It’s time for you to move on.”
Mia smirked, a glint of mischief in her eyes. “You think you can keep him? I know how to get him back. Just wait and see.”
Srikandi stood her ground, refusing to let Mia intimidate her. “You can’t manipulate him like you did before. He’s not the same person anymore, and neither am I. I won’t let you destroy what we have.”
Mia’s expression darkened, and for a moment, Srikandi could see the desperation behind her bravado. “Just remember, I’m not going anywhere. If you really love him, you’ll have to fight for him.”
Srikandi left the park feeling both empowered and drained. She realized that she couldn’t let Mia’s threats overshadow her relationship with Nico. They had to face this together.
The next day, Srikandi decided to surprise Nico at his fruits store with lunch. She wanted to remind him of their connection, to show him that their love was worth fighting for. As she walked to meet him, her heart raced with excitement.
When she entered the store, Nico’s face lit up in surprise. “Srikandi! What a nice surprise!” he exclaimed, pulling her in for a warm hug.
“I brought lunch! I thought we could have a little break together,” she said, laying out the food on his desk.
As they ate, Srikandi couldn’t help but feel a sense of normalcy and happiness. But she knew they had to address the elephant in the room. “Nico, I talked to Mia the other day.”
His expression shifted instantly, concern etched on his face. “What did she say?”
“She’s not going to give up. She’s still trying to manipulate you, and I need you to be aware of that,” Srikandi replied, her heart pounding.
Nico leaned back in his chair, contemplating her words. “I appreciate you telling me. I’ve been thinking about how I can make sure she understands that I’m serious about us.”
Srikandi’s heart swelled with hope, but she needed to hear it from him. “What do you mean?”
“I’ll confront her. I’ll make it clear that I’m not interested in getting back together. I want you, Srikandi. You’re the one who makes me happy,” he said with sincerity.
Tears of relief filled Srikandi’s eyes.
“Thank you, Nico. I just want us to be strong together.”
Nico reached across the desk, taking her hand in his. “We will be. I promise.”
Later that week, Nico decided to confront Mia at a local coffee shop where she often hung out. Srikandi felt a mix of anxiety and anticipation as she waited for him to return home. She trusted him, but the thought of Mia’s manipulations lingered in her mind.
When Nico walked through the door, his expression was serious. “I talked to Mia,” he said, sitting down beside Srikandi.
“And?” she pressed, her heart racing.
“I made it clear that I’m not interested in her anymore. I told her that I’m with you, and I’m happy. She needs to accept that,” Nico replied, his voice steady.
Srikandi let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. Relief washed over her like a warm wave. “What did she say?”
Nico shrugged, a slight smile breaking through his serious demeanor.
“At first, she was upset—she didn’t take it well. But then I think she realized it was pointless. I told her I only want to focus on us, on our future. She can’t keep holding on to something that isn’t there.”
Srikandi smiled, the tension in her chest easing. “I’m proud of you for standing your ground. It must have been hard.”
Nico reached for her hand, squeezing it gently. “It was, but I knew it was necessary. I want you to know that you’re the one I want to be with, no one else.”
They spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing, the weight of the past lifting as they shared their dreams for the future.
Srikandi felt a renewed sense of love and trust in Nico, and in that moment, everything felt right.
