My chest tightened at her words and my mind replayed them over and over again.
I’ll die before that happens. No you won’t. Never. I’ll be the one dying before any man ever lays a finger on you again. I felt a low rumble building in my chest as a growl echoed from my wolf, agreeing with me. Haden looked up at me quizzically before punching my leg. I glanced at him quickly and he blinked.
My eyes had changed. I took a deep breath as I scanned the table to make sure no one else noticed. Everyone was consumed with the food and chatting along with occasionally looking up at Riley. Ki would simply glare at her but I was glad to see he was keeping his mouth shut. I looked back at Haden and ever so slightly lifted the side of my mouth into a smile to thank him.
