Can't Swim

Jennifer wakes to the sound of the alarm. As usual Jennifer immediately got ready and had breakfast. While making bread, Jennifer saw the dirty dishes used last night. When she woke up last night Jennifer found soup and other food on the table. When she tasted the dish, Jennifer immediately knew that it was Thomas's dish. No wonder Jennifer's bed moved from the sofa to the mattress. It must have been Thomas who had moved it.

Jennifer immediately drank a glass of milk. When all was done Jennifer looked at the schedule on the screen as well as the location of the training ground. Today they will practice in the river. Something Jennifer had never done was swimming. Jennifer wasn't sure she could do it. However, there is no harm in trying.

Jennifer immediately went to the river. When almost there, Frans was waiting for Jennifer's arrival, waving his hand. Jennifer only glanced at it then stared at the river. It looks like the river doesn't have a strong current, but it's very deep.

"Are you good at swimming and diving too?" asked France.

"I'm not sure," Jennifer said. More precisely, never swim.

Some of the people who passed to that level were ten people left. Even though it was only the basic level of the whole secret agent training. Jennifer also did not think that the training her father had given her was the basic training of an international secret agent. It's just that every time she wanted to practice swimming, Jennifer never wanted to.

As a child Jennifer had seen a school friend drowned. Since then Jennifer stay away from water activities. Even if she's been on a boat, Jennifer always stays away, looking directly at the water.

"Looks like I'm not going to pass this part," Jennifer muttered and Frans overheard.

"Are you doubting your abilities?" asked France.

Jennifer shook her head. "I never swim."

Frans wanted to say something but their coach had already arrived. This time Thomas became their coach. Jennifer must have let Thomas down. But to give up at the start would be even more embarrassing. The problem with swimming is not something that can be tried. Especially if the depth of the water will make anyone who is not able to swim will drown.

"Alright everyone, I will train you. Remember, don't be fooled by the calm water, you will never know there is any danger in it." Thomas watched everyone.

"Because this is a special training for the best secret agents in the world, nothing is easy here. Everything is always different, full of challenges and is part of simulating the skills you will need when you work in the field."

Jennifer took a deep breath. Jennifer should have known that having the ability in water is also one of the things that must be mastered.

"Please take this roll of paper. Inside there is a number that will be your serial number for carrying out the mission," Thomas said as he took out a clear bowl containing a small roll of paper inside.

Everyone stepped forward one by one including Jennifer. When the reels were opened, Jennifer happened to get number eight. Jennifer felt a little relieved. At least Jennifer still had time to think of a way out of her problem while learning other people's techniques.

"All of you have got the points. Next I will read the mission rules. Listen carefully. You are only tasked with stealing the precious scrolls belonging to the state that are in a cave in this river. So in the river there is a cave. There is a a chest in which there is a precious scroll that you must retrieve. There will be an obstacle waiting there. If you can't, you can appear earlier on the surface and wave your hand. If you run out of breath, you can come to the surface and go back inside water. But this can only be done three times. If you do it four times, we will consider you failed in carrying out the mission," said Thomas.

Jennifer didn't know what to say. What is clear is that the mission is very complicated and requires high skill. Plus what obstacles will be encountered in the water?

"You look calm. You must be very good at swimming," Jennifer said to Frans.

"Of course. Only water makes me close to my mother. I was born on the coast. Since childhood I have often played in water and can swim. Every time I look at the water I will remember my mother. Like now," said Frans.

"Did you spend a lot of time with your mother at the beach?"

"No. My mother died helping me from the waves."

Frans' answer surprised Jennifer. If water kills his mother, why isn't Frans afraid of water? Jennifer was very curious and wanted to ask but practice had already started. The first participant had plunged into the water without the help of any tools. For a moment nothing was seen, but it turned out that the activities in the water could be monitored by Thomas through the computer in his hand. Participants are prohibited from viewing the recording. And one thing Jennifer knows for sure. By just seeing the previous participant jump into the water, Jennifer could not learn anything from seeing any of it.

"I'm definitely going to give up. I can't swim," Jennifer muttered. This time in a very low voice. Frans or anyone on the side wouldn't hear Jennifer clearly.

In about a few minutes, the first participant came to the surface and then dived again. It's not an easy mission. Jennifer could imagine suffocating in the water and choking.

The first participant appeared again waving his hand. Looks like the first participant was unable to continue the mission. Then the second participant carried out the mission. He jumped into the water. A few minutes later it dives again and comes to the surface. Up to three times ago failed. After that Frans jumped into the water. Jennifer watched and waited anxiously. Three minutes had passed, Frans hadn't appeared to take a new breath. Jennifer was getting restless. The feeling of worry if Frans drowned began to fill Jennifer's mind. Jennifer almost screamed at Thomas to stop training and help Frans. But Frans appeared holding a scroll of information in Abel's hand. He successfully completed the mission.

"You're great," Jennifer said when Frans had changed and joined Jennifer.

"It should be," answered Frans with a smile.

Jennifer was getting lost. Of course Jennifer couldn't do it.

"Are you afraid of water?" asked Frans seeing Jennifer's nervousness.

"No. But I can't swim," Jennifer said.

"What!?!" Frans was shocked that his voice was too loud and bothered Thomas.

Frank immediately covered his mouth. Jennifer just sighed. Do not know what to do.

"How come you can't swim," Frans still couldn't believe it.

"Because I've never even been a swimmer. Never learned to swim either," said Jennifer. "I'll die if I jump into the water.

Frans was at a loss as to what to say.
