The whole pack is gathered outside for the ceremony. I scan the crowd, feeling impatient as Autumn reluctantly makes her way back to my side. She looks fretful, biting her lower lip and eyeing me with a sidelong glance. I immediately recognize the expression on her face. My heart sinks. I must have been imagining it after all. I feel foolish even as Amber tries to give me a sympathetic look.
“You didn’t find her.”
My tone is knowing. Autumn exhales and shakes her head. “No Alpha. I tried. I searched the grounds and even questioned people but nobody seemed to know who she was or if they did, they weren’t talking. It’s as though they are all blind,” she complained.
