Fenton said: "All right... thank you." He hung up.
He walked over to the filing-cabinet. He opened two drawers— "D" and "V"— and took a card from each. One was headed with the name of Marcel Du Puisse; the other William Villinger. Fenton put a little pencil cross against each name. Then he put the two cards in a filing-cabinet marked "Z." He put them in a folder that bore a label "Disposed of."
He locked the filing-cabinet. He went back to the desk, picked up the telephone, rang a number. He said:
"This is Fenton. Get a telephone message by the quickest possible means to 'M' for Michael at the Estrada in Lisbon. Code it to give him this:
