24 SOOM AND MIKE GO HOMEAt breakfast the following morning, Soom told her mother that she thought it was time for her to go back to Bangkok and resume her life. Mike had remained in bed, thinking it best to let Soom break the news on her own.
“It’s only a few weeks early, but, well, in light of recent events, I think I’ve been away long enough. I believe that nothing has happened yet, but I think that it was a close shave and if I’m there, I can be pretty sure that nothing will happen.
“Perhaps, I can use my four month’s maternity leave to cover the time I’ve had off and get my holidays back to use when I want. I won’t know until I speak to Personnel at the bank, otherwise I’ll have a couple of weeks off in Bangkok. What do you think?”
