CHAPTER FOURTEEN When Riley opened the door to her dorm room, a small light was blinking in the darkness. The answering machine was signaling a new message. Who could that be? she wondered. For a fleeting moment she imagined it might be Ryan calling her from his car … “Hey, Riley, we forgot to talk about getting together later this week …” Of course she knew it wouldn’t be him—and it was just as well.
