869 Parole

I didn't expect Ash to turn up to the bar the next night, even though it was a Friday. Yet I still glanced at the entrance every five seconds, hoping to see him walk through in that confident way he had, smiling as he spotted me. He didn't, and my heart sank lower than I thought it could. I hated myself for how hurt and angry I felt over his offer. I didn't want to care so much, but I did. I missed his company, his smile, his easy manner. I'd liked him, despite him being a Kavanagh. And I wished I didn't. Kavanaghs hurt people like me, even the seemingly nice ones, whether by design or accident. It would only be a matter of time before he did or said something to put me back in my place.
