#Chapter 5: Alight

I felt the low growl from his throat before I heard it.

Then his hands were on me, huge arms snaring around my body like a sprung trap. I gasped and his tongue pushed into my open mouth. A sound slipped from me, but the King’s lips sealed over mine, swallowing it entirely.

The rage I had felt before was pure fire now, licking across my nerves. I was melting.

His tongue moved against mine, foreign and delicious and unrepentant, prying deeper and forcing me open. I needed it, I might have been moaning for it.

I was lost, confused by the fog of instinct clouding my mind. Was this all the work of the wretched mate bond?

Then, the heat of his body shifted away. A small, frustrated noise escaped me before I could stop it. His voice, dark and low, dropped beside my ear, "I hadn't intended to
