A piercing cry wakes me up. I open my eyes, and a familiar eagle is soaring beside us. “Papi!” I yelled over the rushing wind. “We must be close to Erie Lake,” I say and try to look down and nearly lose my balance.

Morax makes a rumble, ‘Please be careful,’ He says in my head.

The eagle clicks his beak and flaps his wings, and dives.

‘Hold on, dear,’ Morax says and follows the eagle.

My stomach feels like it's in my throat as Morax descends toward the earth. I feel the urge to throw up.

‘Please don’t vomit on me,’ Morax says, seeming to have read my mind. ‘I can hear your thoughts.’

‘Good,’ I grumble at him. I manage to look down, and we are just over the top of the trees. We soar over the packhouse and other familiar buildings. Erie Lake pack members come running out of the
