I opened my eyes to the new morning. I was lying with my back to Nathaniel’s chest while he was snoring softly into the back of my neck. My body felt a little sore from last night’s events. I couldn’t believe that just a few days ago, I was living a life of abuse, and now I was in the loving arms of a man I love.

I wiggled to free myself from his hold, but he tightened his hold on me with a soft growl. I couldn’t help but laugh. I needed to use the bathroom, so I patted his arm. “I need to get up,” I say out loud, but he is still snoring. I run my hand up and down his arms and watch goosebumps rise on his skin. He stirs behind me, and the snoring stops.
