‘You have to tell him,’ Leto whispers. ‘You have to tell Caspar how you feel about Fergus.’

I press my lips together as I walk toward the palace with my father and grandfathers.

“What are you thinking about so hard?” Dad asks me.

I glance at him but say nothing.

I walked outside after becoming overwhelmed by the sheer number of people that surrounded me. I know they are my family, but it is too much right now. I stepped outside, keenly aware I was being followed. Wandering into the garden again, I caught a familiar reptilian scent. I looked toward the bushes to see glowing yellow eyes staring back at me.

A tongue slithers out as the creature turns away from me.

Knowing the danger, I am compelled to follow anyway and head towards the bushes.
