“Ouch,” I mutter when I am smacked in the face by a branch. I am following Fergus Buck through some godforsaken forest. He is taking me to the compound where Bram Abraxas is supposed to have my beloved Nova.

“Sorry,” Fergus mutters.

“Are you sure this is a trail?” I grumble as I look back through the dark at others we brought. Nova’s father and twin brother have accompanied my father and dozens of warriors from my pack and members of the Royal Elite Squad.

“No,” Fergus says. “I just know this is the way.”

I sigh and pray the lizard isn’t taking us to our doom.

“I’m leading you to Nova,” He grumbles.

I had forgotten that he could hear thoughts. “Bastard.”
