Chapter fifteenFrom the chill and confusion of whatever otherwhere it was that the Star Lords sent me through, I saw the outlines of Red Ruin form about me. Fweygo had arrived first and now he straightened up as the last of the blue vanished. His strong Kildoi face took on a look first of surprise, then of questioning, and finally of alarm.

“It’s all right,” I said, very quickly. “You did not know him. He was a very old and dear friend.” For, of course, I still wore the mourning clothes proper to the time of death. And, equally of course, I carried my arsenal of weapons girded about me.

After I’d sketched out my doings in Vallia, saying that it had been extraordinarily pleasant to see the family again despite the sadness of the occasion, Fweygo said he’d seen his family too. They did wel
