Kinley knew she had to tread carefully now. Sam's eyes were shining with tears and she hugged him fiercely, tears welling up in her own eyes. He must be in so much pain and it was unfathomable how any mother could do that to a child, let alone their own.

"Sam honey" Kinley whispered, keeping her mental block up so that she could talk to him without being distracted by his thoughts "did your mother do that to you."

He sniffled and nodded as Kinley drew back and looked at him. "She said it was discipline, that I needed to learn my place" he sobbed, "it always hurt so badly too. I tried to be good, I swear I tried" he added.

Kinley touched his arm softly. "Sweetheart, did she use silver on you?"

She was disgusted when he nodded again. Silver was literally the only thing that would cause
