Caly’s POV

I laid in darkness for what felt like an eternity.  It was important somehow, the darkness. I couldn’t see, move or even hear clearly what went on outside.  I was on the inside, lying in the darkness, everything else was outside and out of reach.  I had to bide my time.  I was convinced I was in purgatory.  Sometimes I felt there was someone on the outside, telling me that the outside world was still there and I would be allowed to come back, so I became hopeful. I just had to do my time here. I would do anything.

Many times I would dream.  Vivid dreams. I had one dream that happened over and over.  At first, I was frightened.  I would wake laying on the banks of a lake. Nothing for miles and miles in any direction except the lake surrounded by tall grasses and cattails.  At f
